The durability label — often called the GARAN mark — is one of two harmonised graphics introduced by Regulation (EU) 2025/1960. Unlike the legal-guarantee notice, it is product-specific and appears only when a qualifying producer guarantee exists.
What the durability label is
The label communicates a commercial guarantee of durability offered by the producer — a commitment that the product will keep its required functions and performance through normal use for a stated number of years. It is defined in Annex II of the Regulation. The graphic is language-neutral and carries editable fields: the number of years, and the brand and model it applies to.
When it must be shown
The label becomes relevant only when the producer's guarantee meets specific conditions. It must be offered by the producer, provided at no additional cost, cover the entire good, and last more than two years — and the producer must make the necessary information available to the trader. Where those conditions are met, the trader informs consumers of the guarantee's existence and duration using the harmonised label.
Because the conditions are product-specific, the label should not be added to every product. Adding a GARAN graphic everywhere would be the wrong implementation.
How it differs from the legal-guarantee notice
The legal-guarantee notice (Annex I) reminds every consumer of their statutory rights and is shown as a general reminder. The durability label (Annex II) highlights a specific, qualifying producer durability guarantee on the products it applies to. The two are designed to complement each other: one is about rights created by law, the other about a voluntary producer commitment.
Getting the display right
For a large catalogue this is as much a data problem as a design one: knowing which products qualify, who the producer is, how long the guarantee lasts, and whether the required information was supplied.
