Use this practical checklist to see how ready your store is for the EU guarantee changes on 27 September 2026. It is an operational readiness check, not a legal assessment — but it is the fastest way to find your gaps.
Step 1 — Confirm the rules apply to you
Work through these first. If you answer "yes" to the first three, the changes deserve your attention.
- We sell goods (physical products), not only services or purely digital subscriptions.
- We sell to consumers, not exclusively business-to-business.
- We serve EU markets — consumers in one or more EU countries.
Step 2 — Score your readiness
Give your store one point for each yes:
- We know where the harmonised legal-guarantee notice will appear on our site.
- We know which products carry qualifying durability guarantees (free, whole-product, longer than two years).
- Our product data can identify those products, their producer and the guarantee duration.
- Our implementation supports the languages of our customers.
- We have reviewed the display on both desktop and mobile.
- Someone owns ongoing maintenance as the catalogue changes.
- We have a plan to test everything before 27 September 2026.
7 yes — you are well into implementation. 4–6 yes — you have the basics, with gaps worth closing. 0–3 yes — start your review now, not in the final week.
Step 3 — Close the gaps
Decide what belongs at store level versus product level, in which language, and for which products. Assign an owner. Then choose an implementation that fits your scale — manual for a small single-market shop, automated once you have more products, markets and languages.
